    Lost in Japan Site Changes

Today I wanted to add an article or useful content to the site, but I spent most of my time doing some much-needed tweaking instead. Notable changes are the Tweetboard miniforum box, the socialbookmark tags on the post pages, and the coverflow flash header. I also cut down on the number of panoramas on the main page and am trying to start giving the blog entries more space . I think LostinJapan should still stay picture-focused for now, but later I would like to move toward having interesting content in other areas. I’m still thinking about the direction I should take things, but whatever I do, I hope it will be enjoyable as well as useful.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Premiere

Today, Wednesday July 15th, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince officially premieres in Japan. I say officially because there have been several showings in theatres yesterday. I am very excited about seeing this newest addition to the HP series, and even more excited that it falls on a Wednesday. Wednesday is [...]

    Chikan

Today a drunk guy tried to touch me on the train (and actually did touch me) and was really rude. I told Tatsuya to ignore it, but when the drunk guy got off the train, he kicked Tatsuya, flipped him off, and then ran to a train station security guard when we got off [...]

    Photographic Info Overload

So my head is about to explode today from another 12 hour straight dose of photography information. Today I learned to set my D50 picture style to landscape for increased sharpness, the true amazingness of HDR + PTGui (both thanks to a friend), and really delved into the Pano2VR skin editor. Yesterday I [...]

    New Skin & New Month

    Happy March!

As I suspected, I’ve been using the blog feature a lot more since installing a cross post plugin.

Today I learned how to skin my panos a little bit, and so I republished my Nomura Building Panorama with it.

    Wordpress Updates

It’s taken far too long for me to do this, but today I updated my Wordpress blog to allow crossposting in LiveJournal. This makes me very happy because it means that I don’t have to feel like there are two seperate blogs to update, and it also means I will probably be more inclined [...]

    Korean Panoramas, Flickr, Philippine Trip

This week I’m very busy with new things, but I’ve decided to try and get pictures from my June 2006 trip to Korea online. During the trip, I and two friends saw some of Seoul and the DMZ. I have many, many still shots of the pictures to share, so I probably should [...]

    Being Productive!

This is the first post of 2009! Whoo hoo!
That’s pretty pathetic considering that it’s almost February, but I have been trying to be productive, and I think you’re going to see a lot more work and projects popping up online soon. I have several websites in the works, I’ve been redoing many panoramas [...]

    www.processing.org

Today I stumbled upon an open source programming language of MIT Media Lab origins called Processing which allows users to create some really amazing animations and interactive programs. http://www.processing.org
The most stunning example that I have come across is a music visualizer created by Glen Marshall. The video clip below is amazing, but it can’t [...]

    I’m baaaaack!

The last time I posted was July. A lot of things have happened since then.

I went back to the States for a month.
    I went to Mika’s wedding!
I accepted a crazy web design job that takes up all my time
I traveled to England and France

I want to explain in more detail and even post pictures, [...]

    One month

One short month and I have done so many things. I am still behind in everything, though, and I just realized the page I’ve created that has the most public views is broken in some versions of Internet Explorer. How mortifying! I checked with all the browsers I had, but I still [...]

    crashing and Silly Poser’s exit

I am a little concerned that my life is going to be changing so much in such a short time. Only 5 weeks of teaching, 2 real lesson plans, 3 AET meetings and I will be kicked unceremoniously out the door of my school and become gloriously unemployed.
I am very happy about [...]

Living interested in a disinteresting life.

That’s today’s Engrish for the day, taken straight off a bag on the train. After reading it, though, I feel like there must be a lot of deeper meaning to it; meaning that I should heed. The more I think about it, the less I believe it really is Engrish.

My head is going to explode

My head is seriously going to explode. I can’t breathe well enough to get oxygen to my brain, so I can’t seem to focus on anything. I am pretty proud of myself, though. I managed to actually go to work today when I was thinking of calling in. I need to [...]

    Beautiful Music

I’m listening to the most beautiful music ever…unfortunately I have no way of finding out what it is. Don’t you hate when that happens? You’re out shopping in some store and you hear a random song and then it’s gone before you can ask anyone around you about it.
    It feels awful [...]

    Slideshow Pro

Okay, it’s a little embarrassing that it took me as long as it did (2 days) to figure out how to use SSP, but in my defense, I didn’t realize that .flv files wouldn’t be visible locally. So there I was, previewing and previewing, thinking there was something wrong with all my video files. [...]

    Aperture Science Case Mod

Surfing around, I just ran into a really sweet case mod based on my new obsession: the videogame Portal. I wish I had this kind of ingenuity and time on my hands, though it sounds like the guy who did it was dodging finals and married life to get this done, and for his [...]

The Moon Looks like an Orange Slice

And you would believe me if I hadn’t left my camera at school. It’s so orange and perfectly cut in half that I want to eat it. It would probably help my sore throat, the one keeping me up at 3am, if I could.
I am going to watch a movie at [...]

    Lonely

I don’t want to admit it, but I am lonely tonight. I need to get myself to bed so that I can face tomorrow. I joined del.icio.us and set up a wordpress blog and got this whole thing running because my head wouldn’t stop hurting even though my fever has gone down. [...]

    Projector

My home theater is complete, and I am on that couch in front of it every possible moment. Unfortunately every possible moment is only a few minutes each day, and I’m often doing work in front of it while I’m relaxing. Still, persistence pays off, and I’ve managed to get through every episode [...]

    Dreams

I’ve been wanting to make a dream blog, but as it’s not going to happen this week, I’ve decided to stop holding off and actually post some recent dreams.
April 22nd - I kept waking up and thinking there was a huge tortoise with the head of a chiwawa in the room. People were gathered [...]

    April Fool’s Day

Today is April Fools’ Day, and though I haven’t witnessed anything funny, I do feel as though the entire country is playing a joke on themselves.
I don’t think there’s anything more foolish you could do than have every new worker start at their new jobs on the same day of the year. [...]

    Relaxing

Today is the first day in a long time that I have some forced relax time. The school year ended yesterday and two hours of cleaning out my desk and two hours of facebooking and an hour of blog reading is about all I could stand. Now I am sitting like a zombie, [...]

Google Page Rank, Thoughts about Japan

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how Google indexes pages and calculates page ranks. I suppose this happened because my own page showed up so highly with random and really absurd searches.
Anyway, I don’t have a reason to be high on any google search, but I think the very fact that searching for Lost [...]

At the Slouc Cafe Programming, but Sleepy

I am missing a movie as I type because I am waiting for Tatsuya, and Tatsuya isn’t off work yet. I thought programming at the Slouc Cafe would be a nice idea, but every time I get here, I tend to relax rather than do anything productive. I mean to be productive, but [...]

    Happy Merry Christmas!

I’m in a good holiday mood…which will probably be destroyed after some meetings tomorrow if I don’t get programming at a faster rate…
Anyway, I made some calls this morning to my parents and friends to wish them a Merry Christmas, but I almost said Happy Christmas a few times. I’ve been in this melting pot [...]

    Christmas Tree

I went to Ikea today and got my very first real Christmas tree. It was only 1,990yen, and the best part is that if I bring the tree back to the store after the holidays, I get an Ikea gift certificate for the same amount. Free real Christmas trees are really nice.

    Slouc Cafe, Urawa = Heaven

I found a piece of heaven this week. It’s called the United Cinema ‘Slouc Cafe (…Sweets & Library)’ in Urawa. It is both a sweets cafe and a library as the name suggests, though I would have put libary before sweets in the title. Their specialty muffins are dry and their drinks are overpriced, but [...]

    Bon Week-end

I met someone who really is a last samurai. Who knew that he would be a normal office worker at a computer company now, keeping his family crest a secret?? But the best night I’ve had in a long time was last night. I had dinner at a young couple’s house in Aoto.
