Google Page Rank, Thoughts about Japan

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how Google indexes pages and calculates page ranks. I suppose this happened because my own page showed up so highly with random and really absurd searches.

Anyway, I don’t have a reason to be high on any google search, but I think the very fact that searching for Lost in Japan or lostinjapan.com or lostinjapan doesn’t list me even in the top 30 sites or so is cause for concern. I mean, I OWN lostinjapan.com, so how can a search for my own site name not lead here?

I think the main problem is that I don’t say lost or or Japan very much. Maybe I should include a short “about me” or tagline that always includes those words. I’m not sure, but it does make me realize that even though I live in Japan, I’ve gotten away from really talking about that part of my life…and maybe it’s time I started again. I have a really great opportunity to see and experience things firsthand that other people only dream about. The problem is that I’ve been in Japan so long now (almost 6 years) that I have lost much of my perspective.

Today, for example, I was looking at some eggs I bought from Mami Mart. In Japan, they print the expiration date across each egg. I thought…wow, this would make a neat blog entry, but then I remembered something. I remembered that I’ve been away from the States for 5 1/2 years. When I left the US to join the JET Program, they didn’t do that, but they might do it now.

So I guess I’ll have to wait to talk more about life in Japan until I get a dose of life in America.
